COLLEGIUM HELVETICUM

DR. PETER KRUMMENACHER

Peter Krummenacher studied Psychology, Neurophysiology, Computer science and Psychopathology at the University of Zurich (diploma thesis in Neuropsychology). After his studies, he worked as clinical neuropsychologist, teacher and consultant.
Since December 2006 he has been a scientific researcher at the Collegium Helveticum. In his doctoral thesis (finished in February 2010) he focused on cerebral modulations and operationalizations of belief and judgment systems, particularly on neuroscientific aspects of placebo processes, emotion regulation, hypnosis and perceptual-cognitive phenomena bordering to hallucinations and delusions.

In 2010 he was awarded with the second prize of the German «Förderpreis für Schmerzforschung 2010» by the German Society for the Study of Pain for his research on placebo analgesia.

Methodically, he focuses on the modulation of higher brain function by using neuropharmacological interventions (in dopaminergic as well as opioidergic systems), suggestions, social cues and by applying transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
