Ivan M. Havel obtained his Ph.D. in theoretical computer science at the University of California in Berkeley in 1971.
Between 1990 and 2008, he was the Director of the Center for Theoretical Study in Prague, a transdisciplinary research institution affiliated with Charles University and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
His current interests are cognitive science and philosophical issus of human consciousness. Ivan M. Havel attended the Collegium Helveticum as a visiting scholar from october 11th to october 16th 2009.
